2017 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 overheating fix on the way

With production suspended on the Chevrolet Corvette Z06, General Motors has been hard at work figuring out a solution to its overheating woes. Here's the fix – starting with the 2017 model year, Chevy will switch to a new hood with larger vents and a new supercharger cover, both designed with cooling in mind.

The move is in response to a number of vocal owners who experienced overheating issues when pushing their cars hard in hot weather. According to Motor1, Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter said the issue only afflicted about five percent of owners, but they were a very, very vocal five percent. So as part of his team's "continual improvement," Juechter's team set about developing a solution.

While Chevy will apply the changes to all 2017 Z06s when production resumes this fall, we're still waiting on details for current owners. "We intend to have the new hardware as a relatively straight forward retrofit to existing cars. We'll announce timing and pricing as we get closer to the restart of Z06 production. So look for an update from us in the coming months." Juechter told Autoblog in an emailed comment. "Again, these changes are designed to improve the cooling performance on track in high temperatures. The engine will carry over its SAE 650 horsepower and torque ratings."
