The E-Tense concept shows the DS brand's passion for cutting-edge design, and a powerful electric motor allows for rapid acceleration. After the recent debut of Renault's Alpine Vision concept, French automakers are getting back on track imagining handsome coupes that might make some American enthusiasts jealous. Look for this EV-GT to debut in Geneva next week. DS claims the E-Tense is a GT, but it looks more like an Audi R8-fighting sports car in these photos because of the wide fenders and short overhangs. A chrome spine bisects the coupe down the hood and over the roof. Rather than a rear window, the E-Tense relies on cameras, and with no need for visibility, DS' stylists create a complicated mix of shapes at the back. We can't wait to see how this looks in real life in Geneva. The interior feature pieces by French luxury goods makers, including a leather helmet harness by Moynat, a watch by BRM Chronographes, and speakers from Focal. The rakish coupe packs an electric motor that makes 402 horsepower and 381 pound-feet of torque, which would get it to 62 miles per hour in 4.5 seconds. DS claims that its lithium-ion battery would offer the equivalent of 193 miles on Europe's mixed testing cycle. Assuming a vehicle like the E-Tense ever sees production, there's a miniscule chance it might arrive in the US. A rumor in fall 2015 hinted that the DS brand's execs believed expansion here was necessary, and the move was a few years away. |
